Blindes huhn (blind hens)
Trade off chickens and try to bluff your way to earning the most points at the end of the game. It’s time to take a look at Blind Hens!
At the start of the game each player receives his starting set of cards. All these cards are the put face-up in front of that player so that everyone can see them.
Each round the active player draws 3 cards from the draw pile and looks at them. He places the cards in the middle of the table. 1 or 2 cards must be placed face-up, the other cards are placed face-down.
The active player places a bid for the 3 cards and in clockwise order, all other players have the possibility to increase the bid. The player with the highest bid wins the cards and adds them to the personal collection. Cards with a hen or a grain on it, are kept face-down and cannot be used during the game.
If the active player won the bid, he has to place cards with at least the value of his bid in the middle of the table. All other players may now in turn choose a card from the active player’s payment, as long as there are cards available in the middle.
If another player wins the bid, he has to pay his bid to the active player.
Play continues until a card is drawn that signals the end of the game (one of the last 10 cards in the draw pile).
Players score points by having the most cards in a color, the highest total value of cards in three different colors and by collecting sets of hens & grains.
Every grain is worth 2 points. Every hen is worth 3 points, but only if you can combine it with a grain card, otherwise a hen will cost you 3 points.
Blind hens is fun bluffing/set collection game.
A minimum of rules make it very easy to explain the game to new players. There isn’t a lot to do in this game, but it has the right amount of playing time.
The quality of the cards and artwork is well done, but nothing too fancy. Special praise for the designer for coming up with 85 different names for all the hens in the game.
The 2015 edition of the game comes with some extra symbols for optional rules, adding more flavor to the game.
